Clarkview Surgery Center
Patients Tell Their Stories
Belcara Health is proud to provide a highly accredited on-site surgical center, officially called Clarkview Surgery Center. This surgical facility, which features two surgical suites, meets the most stringent requirements. We have gone to great effort to ensure the highest standard of safety for our patients. As you consider plastic surgery, we hope the following information will help you to evaluate the choices available to you.
Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC)
The Clarkview Surgery Center at Belcara Health is one of the few outpatient surgical facilities in the area to earn accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). This high-level accreditation signifies that we have met the rigorous standards of a nationally recognized third party.
Accreditation is a voluntary process through which a health care organization is able to measure the quality of its services and performance against nationally-recognized Standards. The accreditation process involves self-assessment by the organization, followed by on-site review by the AAAHC’s expert surveyors, who are themselves health care professionals.
AAAHC Certificate of Accreditation is a sign that an organization has committed to providing high-quality care and that it has demonstrated its commitment by achieving AAAHC Standards. The real value of accreditation, however, lies in the consultative and educational process that precedes the awarding of the certificate. It is this on-going process of self-evaluation, peer review and consultation that helps an organization improve its care and services.
Our Surgery Center has been certified by Medicare and licensed by the state of Maryland as an ASC since 2005.
To participate in the Federal ASC program, the operating facility must meet Medicare criteria and approval, known as Certification. A prerequisite to Medicare Certification is compliance with State Licensure Law. Although Medicare governs the ASC program, each State Department of Health is their own authority, having jurisdiction over the program.
Board Certified Anesthesiologists
Because safety is our first concern, every surgical procedure in our Surgery Center is performed with a Board Certified Anesthesiologist.
Whenever you heavily sedated or have general anesthesia, you put your life in someone else’s hands. Much of that responsibility falls to the person administering the medications and monitoring your vital signs. You need to know the qualifications of the person assuming that responsibility. Their training can range from specialization after earning a medical degree (Anesthesiologists) to specialization after nursing training (Nurse Anesthetists) to nursing training only.
Belcara Health is committed to the highest levels of anesthesia services. This means that our anesthesiologists are fully trained physicians, board certified in the field of Anesthesiology by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). We choose physicians who are in active practice at a hospital because we believe their skills will be at the highest level in the event of an emergency.
The role of the anesthesiologist is multi-fold. They will not only deliver your anesthesia but will also provide continuing medical assessment of your condition by monitoring vital life functions such as heart rate and blood pressure. They will control your level of unconsciousness and will be there as you awaken in the OR. Their role in you surgical experience is a very important one. That is why we are so committed to high levels of competency in the area of anesthesia.
Other area surgeons and surgery centers use Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CNRAs). CNRAs are certainly competent and well trained. However, we feel that our patients are safer if we use only Board Certified Anesthesiologists.
Price differences in facility fees may mean that another facility is using a Nurse Anesthetist and not a Board Certified Anesthesiologist. Other facilities will tell you that they call in an Anesthesiologist just for your surgery. At Belcara Health, we believe that having a full-time staff of Board Certified Anesthesiologists provides a continuity of care and a comfort level for the surgeon as they work together frequently.
We created a warm, welcoming, sophisticated environment, designed with the convenience and comfort of our patients in mind. Every effort was taken to surpass standards and expectations. We devoted considerable attention to patient privacy, creating a separate entrance and private waiting rooms for our surgical patients and their loved-ones. This 5-star facility and state-of-the-art technology creates an exceptional environment that offers top-tier care in a supremely personal setting.
While most of our surgeries are performed at our on-site Surgery Center, it is sometimes necessary to schedule your surgery at one of our partner hospitals. To obtain specific information about the hospital, you may contact the hospital directly.
