A visually “heavy” or loose, sagging brow line can make you look constantly sleepy or angry. For many people bothered by this effect, brow lift surgery is the preferred treatment option. By lifting and smoothing the brow, brow lift surgery in Baltimore can completely change the “atmosphere” of your face.
As we age, the loss of elasticity in the skin contributes to the development of horizontal forehead creases, relaxation looseness of the forehead skin, and descent of the brows. This creates an aged appearance to the upper third of the face. The descent of the brows can create a tired or saddened appearance to the eyes and can worsen the appearance of excess upper eyelid skin.
Who is a good candidate for a brow lift?
Patients considering brow lift surgery should be in good general health and have a realistic understanding of what can be accomplished with the procedure. During your initial consultation, your Belcara Health plastic surgeon will discuss your concerns, goals, medical history, and expected results with you and determine the best treatment plan to meet your needs.
What does brow lift surgery involve?
In Baltimore, brow lift or forehead lift surgery is personalized to address your unique needs. There are various techniques that can be used to perform brow lift surgery. These include open, endoscopic, and direct approaches. The decision to use a certain technique depends upon the patient’s anatomy, specific concerns, and goals for the brow lift surgery. A brow lift may be performed under local anesthesia, moderate sedation, or general anesthesia. The type of anesthesia used depends on the patient, their goals for brow lift surgery, and the technique used.
Where will the procedure take place?
For your privacy, convenience, and comfort, Belcara Health offers an on-site surgical center. Because safety is our first concern, our facility meets the most stringent requirements. We are certified by Medicare and licensed by the state of Maryland as an ASC. We are one of the few outpatient surgical facilities to earn accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). This high-level accreditation is proof of our commitment to the highest quality patient care and signifies that we have met the rigorous standards of a nationally recognized third party.
What should I expect during recovery?
Following brow lift surgery, you will be able to rest in the comfort of your own home. If your procedure is done under anesthesia, you must have someone to drive you home after surgery. It may take several hours for the anesthesia medication to wear off, so expect to be groggy for a while.
Every patient’s recovery is different and depends upon the extent of their personal treatment plan. You may experience some bruising or swelling in the first few days following surgery, but these typically resolve in 1 to 2 weeks. Your surgeon will give you thorough instructions that are tailored to your individual case, but in general, patients can expect the following:
- Rest in bed the day of surgery and limit activity for the next 3 to 5 days
- Avoid bending or lifting heavy objects for 1 week
- Avoid strenuous activities for 2 weeks
- Typically, you can return to work within 7 to 10 days
