Male Breast Reduction
If you are self-conscience about the appearance of your chest, you might be a candidate for Male Breast Reduction.
Gynecomastia is the over-development of male breast tissue and is a common concern, affecting approximately 40% of men. Enlarged breasts are often uncomfortable and socially concerning for men.
A male breast reduction procedure removes unwanted fat and tissue from the chest area, resulting in a flatter, more masculine chest. In addition to improving the chest contour, a male breast reduction procedure often has many other life-enhancing benefits, including:
- Freedom to go shirtless at the beach or pool
- Improved self-confidence
- Expand wardrobe options to include more tailored shirts.
Gynecomastia usually develops at the time of puberty. It often shrinks within several months after it begins, but if it persists for more than 12 months, it may become fibrotic and is unlikely to go away on its own. The condition can be genetic but is more often a random, sporadic occurrence.
An individualized approach for natural results
At Belcara Health, we always strive to give our patients the most natural looking results possible. Our surgeons use advanced surgical techniques and technology to ensure our patients have the least amount of scarring possible, a quick recovery and effective results. Your surgeon’s recommended surgical plan will be determined by your anatomy and your desired outcome.
What’s involved in a male breast reduction?
Male breast reduction surgery takes about 1 to 3 hours and is done on an outpatient basis, usually under general anesthesia. Small incisions are made in the armpit, below the areola, or both. The excess breast tissue and fat are removed with liposuction, excision, or a combination of these two. This creates a smooth, flat contoured chest for a more masculine shape.
Following surgery, you will be able to rest in the comfort of your own home. Recovery time depends upon your customized surgical plan and your general health condition Expect to return to work within about one week.
Where will the procedure take place?
Most gynecomastia patients elect to have their procedure performed in our on-site surgery center. Our 5-star facility, the Clarkview Surgical Center, was designed with the safety, comfort, privacy, and convenience of our patients in mind. It features state-of-the-art technology and meets the most rigorous safety standards. We are proud to be one of the few outpatient surgical facilities to earn AAAHC accreditation, as well as certifications from Medicare and the state of Maryland. Because safety is our first concern, all surgical procedures are performed with board-certified anesthesiologists and registered nurses.
