Facial Implants in Baltimore, MD

Facial implants are often used to establish harmony and balance to the face, providing greater definition to the chin, jawline, and cheekbones. Chin implants are used to help augment an under-projected or “weak” chin. Cheek implants can help restore volume in the cheeks, giving the face a youthful appearance. Here in Baltimore, cheek and chin implant surgery can be performed alone or in combination with other procedures such as a rhinoplasty, facelift, eyelid surgery, or other facial rejuvenation procedures.

What does a chin implant treat, and what results can I expect?

An under-developed or “weak” chin can create a sense of disharmony in an otherwise attractive and balanced face. From the side view, a weak chin can also create the illusion of a larger nose. Fortunately, chin implantation is a safe and effective procedure to augment and project this area, creating a smooth and stronger outline of the lower face.

What does a chin implant procedure involve?

Chin implants come in various shapes and sizes and are tailored to each individual patient. They are placed through a small incision under the chin, which is hidden in a skin crease. Once healing has completed, these implants look and feel like a natural chin. The procedure may be performed under local anesthesia, moderate sedation, or general anesthesia depending on the patient and extent of the procedure.

What does a cheek implant treat, and what results can I expect?

Some of us are born with naturally flat cheekbones. Others can experience flattening or a “sunken” look of the cheeks due to volume loss related to the aging process or trauma. A cheek implant procedure is a long-term treatment option that will restore volume to the cheek area, provide greater definition, restore balance, and improve facial harmony.

What does a cheek implant procedure involve?

Cheek implants come in various shapes and sizes and are tailored to each individual patient. They are typically placed through 2 small incisions inside the mouth and positioned over the patient’s natural cheekbones. The procedure may be performed under local anesthesia, moderate sedation, or general anesthesia depending on the patient and extent of the procedure.

Who is a good candidate for a facial implant procedure in Baltimore?

Men and women who have a weak chin or jawline may be good candidates for chin implantation. Individuals with flat or sunken cheekbones may be good candidates for cheek implantation. Patients seeking facial implant procedures often wish to achieve greater balance and harmony of their face. If you’re considering a facial implant procedure, you should be in good general health and have a realistic understanding of what can be accomplished with the procedure. During your initial consultation, your Belcara Health plastic surgeon will discuss your concerns, goals, medical history, and expected result with you and determine the best treatment plan to meet your needs.

Where will the procedure take place?

Most facial contouring patients elect to have their procedures performed in our on-site surgery center. Our 5-star facility, the Clarkview Surgical Center, was designed with the safety, comfort, privacy, and convenience of our patients in mind. It features state-of-the-art technology and meets the most rigorous safety standards. We are proud to be one of the few outpatient surgical facilities to earn AAAHC accreditation, as well as certifications from Medicare and the state of Maryland. Because safety is our first concern, all surgical procedures are performed with board-certified anesthesiologists and registered nurses.

What should I expect during my recovery?

Following facial implant surgery, you will be able to rest in the comfort of your own home. If your procedure was performed under anesthesia, you must have someone to drive you home after surgery. It may take several hours for the anesthesia medication to wear off, so expect to be groggy for a while.

Every patient’s recovery is different and depends upon the extent of their personal treatment plan. You may experience some bruising or swelling in the first few days following surgery, but these typically resolve in a few weeks. Your surgeon will give you thorough instructions that are tailored to your individual case, but in general, patients can expect the following:

  • Rest in bed the day of surgery and limit activity for the next 3 to 5 days.
  • Avoid bending or lifting heavy objects for 1 week
  • Avoid strenuous activities for 1 week
  • Typically, you can return to work within 7 to 10 days.
