Woman considering plastic surgery in the winter

Give Yourself a Holiday Gift With Belcara Health

This holiday season, take a step back from the usual hustle and bustle and give yourself a treat. While winter is traditionally a busy time of year, it’s also a surprisingly good season to undergo the aesthetic procedure you’ve been considering for yourself. Each plastic surgeon in our Baltimore, MD, practice says their patients have similar reasons for scheduling winter procedures.

Time Off

Paid time off is in short supply at many companies. If you’re running low on PTO or you’d simply like to use your vacation days for an actual vacation, winter is ideal. Many people have “built in” time off on the big winter holidays, which means that you’ll need to ask for fewer days off for your recuperation. This can also help if you’d rather not tell the whole office why you were out. Many less invasive procedures, like chemical peels or laser skin resurfacing, may only require a day or so off from work. Others, such as breast augmentation, need about 5 to 7 days of time at home.

The Weather

Winter weather can be a boon to healing for 2 reasons: comfort and safety. After certain procedures, such as skin resurfacing, sun exposure should be avoided in order to allow the skin to heal completely. Winter brings gray, cloudy days and more time spent indoors, making it easy to avoid unnecessary UV rays. Additionally, recuperating in cooler weather is simply more comfortable, especially if you’ve had surgery. Dressings, bandages, and compression garments are more tolerable when it’s not too hot out—plus they can be kept hidden under layers of clothing. Be cozy and comfortable under your favorite quilt and get ready to greet spring with your new body!

Helping Hands

While visiting family and friends can sometimes be a source of stress, they can also be a great source of help when you need it. While we wouldn’t recommend springing your surgery on your guests, it can definitely be helpful to have your loved ones close at hand to pitch in around the house. Depending on the procedure you undergo, you may need help with child care, housework, errands, or even lifting something heavy. Having a team of people who support and care about you is important after any type of surgery, but it is perhaps easier to do during the holidays season.

So what procedures do people tend to book for the winter? We often see a rise in the popularity of significant surgical procedures, including mommy makeovers and facelifts. Nonsurgical resurfacing procedures are popular in the winter too, as they can undo some of the damage inflicted by the summer sun.

Now is the time to begin planning your procedure if you’d like to book around the holidays. We encourage you to contact us today to get started. The first step is a personalized consultation with one of our surgeons or aestheticians. We can’t wait to help you look great for many holidays to come!
