About this Case

This 36-year-old patient was unhappy with the excess fat near her armpits, technically called the axilla. She disliked how it hung over her bra and made the area appear lumpy and thick. Axillary fat is essentially extra breast tissue that developed beyond the normal breast location. This condition, also known as side breast tissue or “armpit roll,” is often hereditary and occurs in approximately 2-6% of both men and women.

The patient sought assistance from Dr. Gary Vela, a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and Body Contouring Specialist, to address her concern. Dr. Vela recommended a liposuction procedure, under local anesthesia, to remove the excess tissue and create a smoother, more attractive contour. Dr. Vela performed the procedure in Belcara Health’s on-site, AAAHC accredited, Clarkview Surgical Center. After a quick recovery with minimal discomfort, the patient is thrilled with her results.
