Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Thoughtful woman with short, styled hair.

IPL – Intense Pulsed Light

IPL is a safe, easy and quick way for patients to get rid of their red complexion, fine wrinkles, brown spots, irregular pigmentation, and large pores.

Please note: Belcara Health reserves the right to withhold the $50 deposit of any patient who cancels within 24 hours of their scheduled appointment, or fails to show up for their scheduled Skin & Laser appointment.

IPL is one of our most popular anti-aging laser skin services. It produces even-toned skin that looks more youthful and will erase skin damage and treat a variety of skin conditions, such as:

  • Broken Capillaries
  • Sun and Smoke Damage
  • Veins
  • Mild Acne Scars
  • Enlarged Pores
  • Dull Complexions
  • Uneven Pigmentation
  • Pigmented Freckles and Age Spots
  • Red Flushing skin
  • Rosacea & Redness
  • Liver Spots
  • Fine lines & Wrinkles

IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, treatment gently delivers a broad-spectrum into the skin and effectively targets pigment producing cells below the surface of the skin. The light energy destroys the hyperactive melanin producing cells in the layers of your skin. The spots are pulled to the surface and eventually flakes off to reveal a beautiful, radiant, clear complexion.

Who Is/Is Not a Good Candidate for IPL?

Those with dark skin or a sun-induced tan are not good candidates. Because the light rays are attracted to pigment, darker skin tones can actually become discolored.

How Many IPL Treatments Do I need?

For best results, 3-5 treatments are typically recommended, about four weeks apart.

Where Treatment Areas Are Best For IPL Photofacial?

At Belcara Health, we use IPL technology on the face, neck, chest, hands, shoulder, legs and arms.

How Long Do IPL Results Last?

IPL results perpetually improve over time, with best results being seen three months after the last treatment. Sun protection and skin care maintenance are essential to the longevity of the results. Sun exposure will bring back old spots and freckles and dullness. A new series of treatments are recommended every year for optimal results.

Your IPL Treatment

Your Laser Treatment Specialist will thoroughly cleanse your skin and apply a cool gel to your skin, which enhances the effect of the light waves. The laser is moved over the skin, flashing light energy about every centimeter. After the treatment, you will likely be slightly red and puffy, and your skin may feel warm, but there is no significant down time. You are free to reapply make up right away and return to your normal skin care routine. Be sure to stay out of the sun for at least the next week and be consistent in sun screen application.
